Immerse yourself in a Resistance network!
Ranked amongst the most significant sites of the Resistance in France, the Plouha trails in the Côtes d’Armor are steeped in history.
Download the 10 modules of the Shelburn mobile app for free and, starting from the Chapelle Saint Samson in Plouha, follow the signposted route of around 3 km that Allied airmen and Resistance fighters took in 1944 to reach Bonaparte Beach, the gateway to freedom. A memorable experience to ensure that remembrance stands up to the forces of oblivion.
Relive history! Become a Second World War Allied soldier attempting to reach England from Plouha!
During the school holidays or on request for groups, the Tourist Office organises guided tours.
For nearly two hours, you will travel back in time and relive the incredible story of the men and women who outwitted the occupying forces at the risk of their own lives.
Marine will be your guide on the Liberty Trail. First of all, some background: the Occupation, the Resistance and the Shelburn network, which operated from Paris to repatriate airmen who had crashed on French soil.
It is now 1944. Having arrived in Plouha after spending several weeks in hiding, a message on the BBC announces a window of opportunity for your departure: «Bonjour tour le monde à la Maison d’Alphonse» – a corvette will be there during the night to take you back to England.
In complete silence, in single file, you and your comrades make your way forward. German patrols are on the lookout and danger is ever-present. The Resistance fighters guiding you are also risking their lives, but they do not give it a second thought. All that matters is the success of the mission.
Bonaparte Beach is now in sight; you must cross it without being spotted. Back in the day, the group used to slide down on their bottoms from the top of the cliff!
The sound of the waves – or perhaps a small boat coming ashore? What will become of you once this escape is over?
DAYTIME OR EVENING TOURS!
